1. What brought you to CFS?
I joined CrossFit Stamford in January of 2015 together with my dad. Fall sports had just ended (I played soccer) and so I needed something else to do, and after seeing some videos of the CrossFit Games online I was excited to get started.
2. What 1 thing would you like members to know.
I’m a drummer and I loving playing the drums. And while I don’t play nearly as much as I used to, it’s almost like meditation.
3. What PR are you most proud of? What is your next PR goal?
The PR I am most proud of is finishing 44th in the world and 2nd in the north east for the teenage boys 16-17 division in the Open this year. My next PR goal is to be able to hold a freestanding handstand for 15 seconds.
4. If you could have anyone coach you through a WOD, who would it be?
It would be my grandfather, Piet (or in Dutch we’d call him “Opa Piet”). He’s one of my best friends.
5. What were you like in high school?
I’m actually currently still in high school, so I guess mostly who I am now.
6. What movie as a kid scarred you the most?
The fourth Harry Potter movie (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)–mostly because “he who must not be named” comes back to life at the end.
7. What is your biggest first world problem?
My biggest first world problem is definitely having cars honk at me to go faster as I’m biking home from the gym, because they’re afraid to go around. I understand they’ve got places to go, but at the same time I don’t have a booster button on my bicycle :).
8. What is your favorite meal, in detail?
My favorite meal is Singaporean-style fried rice. In Singapore they have these places called food courts, where for an incredibly small amount of money you can get some of the most best food in the country, and the fried rice from these food courts is delicious.
9. If you had $1 million, what would you spend it on? Give details!
I would spend an extended amount of time (how long exactly I don’t know) traveling the world, with the least amount of material possessions as possible so that I can learn and take in as much as possible.
10. What are you most grateful for?
I am incredibly grateful for my family (my mom, dad and three younger brothers, and my grandparents, and uncles–the whole bunch).
