Each month the coaches vote for one member who exudes the attitude and work ethic of a true CrossFitter.  Jules has been a big part of the community for just about 3 years now.  She always give it her all in the workouts, competes or helps in all the events, and is super nice and welcoming to new members. She makes the whole CFS community better!

How long have you been CrossFitting?
I joined in June 2010, so it’s almost 3 years now.

Why did you join CrossFit Stamford?
I saw all the positive changes one of the guys at the firehouse had from CrossFit and knew I had to try it.  Working out on my own was boring and results were lacking.

What is your favorite movement?
Squatting.  I was bummed when I got hurt during the Hatch Program 4 weeks in to it, but was glad to be healed in time to do AP’s Strength Cycle.  I love the rush from a challenging set regardless of whether it is high reps or a heavy weight.  The results from the hard work you put in there can be seen in so many other parts of our workouts.

What is your least favorite movement?
Wall Ball.  It is my goat without a doubt.  Burpees are a close second, but wall balls seem to drain me mentally and physically.  I wanted to cry when I saw Karen as part of 13.3.  Lol…

What is the best thing about CrossFit Stamford?
The people.  I’ve seen a few changes in my time here, like a new location, new coaches, and tons of new faces (my OnRamp had 4 people in it), but it is the people that really make CFS so great.  I look forward to seeing who will be there when I walk in every day.

Most memorable moment?

When I decided to try unassisted kip for the hell of it in a work out even though I was still using a band. Kristie had to yell at me to keep going because the clock was running and I was standing there in shock thinking “I just did that?!”

What are your fitness goals 3 months & 1 year from now?
For the next 3 months, I really want to work on my Snatch and OHS.  I really struggle with them due to an old shoulder injury. A year from now I would like to be doing wods with those movements in them RX (or closer to RX) instead of struggling with the bar.

What are your favorite Paleo & non Paleo foods?
Steak, veggies, and a baked sweet potato are probably my Paleo staple.  My cheats lately have all involved searching for a good microbrew list and burgers.

What advice would you give a potential new member?
It took me a long time to figure this one out, but learn to love scaling.  We all get caught up in wanting to have a good score or do a wod RX, but it is the scaling, practicing, and working on the little things that will ultimately get you there in the end. It’s worth the time and effort to start small and work your way up.  Also, just have fun!

A celebrity joins the gym, who do you hope it is and why?
I would like to workout with Annie Thorisdottir and Rich Froning.  They both have won the Games back to back.  Would be a great experience to watch and get tips from them.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.
My dream job would be being a Mythbuster or one of the hosts on BBC’s Top Gear.  Who wouldn’t want to blow stuff up or drive really awesome cars?!
