Each month the coaches choose one person who exudes the attitude and work ethic of a true CrossFitter. Someone who always tries hard, doesn’t have an ego, is friendly to new members, someone who we are proud to have as a part of the CFS Community.

This month’s recipient is Pete.

How long have you been CrossFitting? A friend of mine introduced me to Crossfit in 2008. I began attempting to do the WODs at my local rec center, which didn’t work out too well for me. I used to get a lot of strange looks doing thrusters with a curl bar. I joined Crossfit Stamford in February 2010. There were only 4 people including me in my On Ramp.

Why did you join CrossFit Stamford? I joined Crossfit Stamford because I needed a challenge. Its easy to not push yourself when you workout alone. But when you’re part of a group it pushes you to work harder and compete. When you push yourself and get out of your comfort zone is when you really start to improve.

What is your favorite movement?  Muscle ups. Its really a pretty simple movement, but its outrageously difficult. Seeing the joy on a person’s face when they their first muscle up is priceless.

What is your least favorite movement?  Burpees. I’ve never worked out and said to myself, wow those burpees felt great today. Easily my least favorite movement.

What is the best thing about CrossFit Stamford?  The people are easily the best thing about Crossfit Stamford.

Most memorable moment?  Tough to pick just one moment. I really enjoy competitions both in-house and at other places. Competitions give you the chance to really challenge yourself. They also give you the chance to spend a bunch of time with other members of the gym. We almost always stop for some kind of outrageously unhealthy meal after competitions as well. Its scientifically proven that unhealthy foods taste better after extreme physical exertion, so we never hold back after competitions.

What are your fitness goals 3 months & 1 year from now?  In the next 3 months I’d like to improve my diet as well as mobility. If 1 year from now I was able to do 10 unbroken muscle ups, I’d be pretty satisfied with that.

What are your favorite Paleo & non Paleo foods?  Favorite Non-Paleo foods are too numerous to list. Snickers Ice Cream bars would have to be pretty high up on that list though. If Snickers Ice Cream bars ever became illegal, I’d definitely buy them on the black market. Favorite paleo food would have to be a nice grass-fed steak.

What advice would you give a potential new member?  I’d tell a new member to stick with it and don’t get discouraged. A lot of the Crossfit movements take time and practice. Its easy to get frustrated with things like pull-ups and double unders, but keep working and one day things will click. I’d also tell a new member to talk to coaches about what they struggle with. We’re fortunate to have a group of incredible coaches, who are very knowledgeable and eager to help you improve. Definitely take advantage of having them as a resource.

What do you think of Rob’s beard?  I’ve always found myself curiously aroused by Rob’s beard. Not sure if you can print that or not.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.  I recently started making and bottling my own Limoncello. So if anyone is looking for a nice after dinner digestivo, come talk to me. I was also lying about it being scientifically proven that unhealthy foods taste better after extreme physical exertion. Hopefully people started Googling that after they read it.
